After Collingham

Careers Advice and Degree Course Applications

Most Collingham leavers go on to university, some to art college or drama school. Aptitude tests are arranged, and advice on careers and courses is given by subject tutors and personal tutors, whose understanding of the individual and wide experience combine to give the student clear guidance as to the most appropriate option. A full range of prospectuses can be consulted in the careers room and on CD-Rom. Great care is taken with the university application forms so that all students can achieve places that suit their aims and abilities. Mock interviews build the confidence necessary for success. Tuition and help are given to prepare students for entrance to European and American universities.

Careers Day

Careers Day is held in June, for the benefit of first-year sixth formers. A series of workshops and presentations involve students in thinking about their career options and discovering more about them.

Parents and students are invited to a UCAS Presentation Evening, when the university application process is thoroughly explained. Personal Tutors are on hand to advise and inform students individually.

At the end of the summer term, first-year students do two weeks of work experience in a context that is closely related to one of their chosen career options. As well as helping to develop work-related skills, such experience also enhances the student’s CV and his or her personal statement for UCAS.
