Latin and Greek

The subject

Latin is a dead language – so it is said. Yet Latin is in fact still spoken, only it has developed over the centuries into various modern languages – French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Catalan, Romanian and others. The core of all these languages is Latin, and until the seventeenth century it was the common language of the educated classes. It is a crucial tool even today in learning new languages and understanding their grammar. At Collingham we have been able to help all levels of students from beginners up to university graduates in coping with the complexities of both Latin and Greek. We specialise in helping students to overcome problems in grammar and vocabulary, and have consequently obtained high grades in recent years. These are no longer subjects to fear, particularly as competence in these subjects leads to generous offers from our best universities, especially Oxbridge.
