French and History of Art students, along with three of our finest tutors, went on a trip to Paris for a day of soaking in, and learning about, French culture. It was an early start, with students meeting staff at St Pancras at 6.15am but they arrived in Paris for 10am, meaning they had the entire day ahead to enjoy Paris.
They took the Metro into central Paris and took a walk from the Ile St Louis. They fitted a lot in, starting with visiting Ile de la Cité (Notre Dame), Quartier Latin (the Latin Quarter), Pont Neuf (the oldest standing bridge across the river Seine in Paris), Palais du Louvre (Cour Carée and Pyramide), Palais Royal and Place des Victoires. This was just the morning!
After lunch, students visited the Musée d’Orsay, where they admired the works of Frédéric Bazille, a key figure in the birth of Impressionism, and learnt about the history of the famous museum. It was an incredible day and students were lucky to experience some of the history, beauty and art of Paris with guidance from Collingham’s excellent and passionate French and History of Art tutors.
