Collingham in the Community

Collingham is always keen to help give back and engage with the local community, and our latest charitable venture is to work with the London Wildlife Trust.

The trust, set up in 1981, is the only charity dedicated solely to protecting the capital’s wildlife and wild spaces.

Our students will be going to Gunnersby Triangle, abandoned allotments between railway tracks that grew into a beautiful woodland space. The triangle was protected at a landmark enquiry in 1983 following a campaign by local residents. Activities our students will partake in, include hedge planting, bird box creation, pond clearing and meadow restoration - these will help prepare the reserve to become a sanctuary for breeding season. It will be an enriching opportunity for students who will have the opportunity to look out for species such as the great spotted woodpecker, the sparrowhawk, and the orange tip butterfly.
