The London Challenge Cup

On Saturday 25th November, the London Challenge Cup took place at Westway Sports Centre. The competition was played between four London colleges. Collingham were on a good run of form, having beaten MPW 5-1 in the previous week.

The boys took this form into the first match, with a convincing 5-0 opening victory.

The second game proved to be a greater test. Albemarle sprung out of the traps with an early goal. The team showed some great fight and determination to steady the ship and settle into the match. A creative, flowing move led to an opening for Collingham, and Daniele duly obliged, firing in expertly from 20 yards.

The third match proved to be a routine victory, a 7-0 victory at the hands of David Game. Miles was also amongst the goals to cap of a superb victory.

An excellent set of results, culminated in Collingham topping the group and facing Albermarle in the final, both teams having previously drawn 1-1 earlier in the day. Unfortunately, Albermarle took advantage of some lacklustre defending early on and the boys were unable to recover.

The team finished runners up in the first tournament of their season. Throughout the day, there was an outstanding display of talent, with Daniele finishing top goalscorer of the tournament, and Arjun scoring a goal worthy of gracing any Premier League ground. Ben captained the team superbly, leading by example and carrying the team forward.

The team will no doubt be a force to be reckoned with when they embark on their venture to St Georges Park for the annual CIFE football tournament in April. This year could well be the year!
